Off Licence Magazine Issue Sixteen approaches jazz not as a rigid genre, but as a fluid spirit built on movement, improvisation, and community. Far from a traditional, chin-scratching critique, this is a finger-clicking, barrier-breaking volume that explores what jazz means today across musical, cultural, and social landscapes.
The issue is uniquely constructed to flip halfway through, featuring two separate covers fronted by Venna and Kokoroko. Inspired by Kokoroko’s description of the genre as ‘Wonderful Black Music,’ the pages inside capture a sound that is expansive, joyful, and alive.
Inside this issue: Venna, Kokoroko, Emma-Jean Thackray, Tomorrow’s Warriors, and Allexa Nava.
Further contributions by: Coco Maria, Haseeb Iqbal, Tina Edwards, and Colleen ‘Cosmo’ Murphy, with original photography and editorial from a curated lineup of writers and creators. Includes an Offie Mag Travel feature on Cuba.
